Everything you always wanted to know about me |
|
The intention of this page is to provide some personal information about me to you - my Internet contact partners around the world - to let you know
whom you deal with if you have been on one of my other web sites before or if you only know me through email or phone contact.
You will find here some more or less private facts about me you could easily live without in the past and which will
presumably not affect your future either. In other words: all you never dared to ask.
What you find in this section:
And, of course a lot about me:

Some background |
information about my website |
|
The title of my website refers to my satirical little stories which are published in the German
part under the topic GLOSSEN. It means
Meaningful, Nonsensical, Profound & Rubbishy.
And the little logo of my website (on the top left) visualizes my last name: Bo-Ente. 'Ente' means duck - makes no sense in English, sorry. |

details |
|
Name Heinz
(a.k.a. Heiner, my wife and many of my friends call me so) Boente
(an old huguenot name), really spelt with oe and not the German Umlaut ö (pronounced like the i in 'bird'). Sorry, I do not know what it means. |
| |
Short CV born in Soest in
Westphalia on December 9, 1946 (see my remark about age on the right). Grown up in the Ruhr district (Essen-Kettwig) and partly in the lower Rhine area (Kleve). |
| |
Characteristics and Peculiarities I wear glasses since I was 11 and a beard since I was 18. I am a realistic optimist and a passionate pipe smoker (yes, I know...). I am 1,81m (= 5' 6.4") tall and my
weight is, uhm, pretty relative and - you know - depends on the location (on Jupiter it would be more, but less on the Moon). |
| |
Family married to Gisela Lampel
two children: Britta and Daniel (both from first marriage) and three grand children: Ricarda, Tristan and Anna. |
| |
|
Education |
and profession |
|
School Elementary and
high school in Essen-Kettwig and Kleve. Graduation at the Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium in Kettwig. |
| |
Military service I served 18
month in the German army (Bundeswehr) and finished as corporal, however since April 1969 I am a committed pacifist. |
| |
Education
as computer scientist in Hamburg, Essen and Stuttgart. |
| |
Profession for 35 years as
computer specialist, instructor and manager with IBM in various business areas, mainly in internal and customer education.
By the way, I still know what a punch card is and the very first computer I worked with was an IBM 1401 with 16 KB
main storage... yes, Kilobytes, not Megabytes! This thing had about the size of a three-door cabinet. |

Privatier (early retiree) July 1
|
|
| |
The ideal status in July 2002 I
early retired. However, I do not want to be called retiree, I prefer the French word privatier (privateer), this sounds more elegant. Since then I only do what I like and the money flows to my bank account
anyway... just the ideal status. |
| |
|
Languages |
I speak (more or less) |
|
German
is my native language, which I really love. |
| |
Latin helps a little when I am
traveling in Spanish or Italian speaking countries. |
| |
Ancient Greek
really not very much. |
| |
English actually, after four
years in the USA I speak English with a slight American accent. |
| |
Danish well enough to surprise
Danes that a German speaks their language. |
| |
French it's a shame, but due to
lack of practice I have forgotten most of it - well, I would not starve in France. |

Hobbies |
- what I do all day long |
|
Creative lazing if you
don't know what I mean by that, you should pay me a visit and watch me doing it for a day. |
| |
Web Design Currently, this is
my number one hobby and pokypsi WEB DESIGN this is my little design company, nothing really serious to make a living, more a fun thing, just to name the baby.
My current favorite web project is a website about Hoimar von Ditfurth, a well known German scientist, excellent
writer, and host of a popular TV science show who died in 1989. I've got all his books and most of his publications. This website is my serious contribution to the Internet
community (the following link leads directly to his biography page in English).
|
| |
Cooking not simply eggs and
noodles but also rather demanding and lavish menus. |
| |
Reading I prefer popular
science literature. My favorite writers are Paul Davies and Hoimar von Ditfurth. |
| |
Making Music I play my Yamaha
PSR-6000 keyboard and my Korg M1 synthesizer almost daily just to relax and occasionally I even perform in public. If you understand German, see my music website for more details.
|
| |
Vacation although I am a pretty
home-loving person, I got to get out out from time to time, no matter where but - if possible - preferably by train. My favorite vacation country is Turkey (Istanbul, Bursa and the Aegean coast). |
| |
Writing
this and that (but always in German). |
| |
Scuba Diving not often enough.
I got my international CMAS* license while I lived in Denmark and I dived on many different locations around the world since then.
*CMAS = Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (World underwater federation) |
| |
Riding my motorcycle after a
motor scooter (Vespa) and two Yamaha's I am now the proud owner of my dream machine: a Harley-Davidson FXDL Low Rider, a venerable 1980 (!) model, but still going strong. If you understand German, click the
following link to read the full story of my obsession.
|
| |
Watching TV sometimes until
very late in the night (as privatier I can do so). I mostly watch science and comedy shows.
Very relaxing is The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross, even though his pictures do not necessarily match my taste.
|
| |
|
Preferences |
- my all time favorites |
|
Favorite Food I like
steaks, Chinese and Italian food and classical German stews, additionally, I really love - yes, I admit it - French fries, ketchup and English wine gums. |
| |
Favorite Beverages I drink much
to much coffee during the day, nonalcoholic beer (yes) with my meals and a lot of ice tea. Very seldom, I have a glass of wine in the evening. |
| |
Favorite Music I mostly listen
to either Jazz or Classical music. My favorite Jazz musicians are Oscar Peterson (p), Maynard Ferguson (tp), John Coltrane (sax) and Peter Herbolzheimer
(tb) and his Rhythm Combination & Brass, besides all the other great jazz artists, but my musical preferences vary significantly and cover everything from A as 'a capella' to Z as 'Zappa'. Basically, I prefer instrumentals and the only musical genre which I absolutely cannot stand is opera.
My favorite classical composers are Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Gustav Mahler.
I also love my CD and vinyl record collection which is not a huge one (about 600 records, 400 CDs and 100 audio
cassettes), but a nice selection of mostly Jazz and Classical music.
If you understand German, check my music website for more details.
And don't forget to take a look into the section HÖRBEFEHLE
either. |
| |
Favorite computer game
the strategy game Empire Earth. Thanks to the cheat codes, I always win. |
| |
Favorite actors Jami Lee
Curtis, Meril Streep, Sean Connery, Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy, Rowan Atkinson. |
| |
Favorite movies (my top ten)
which I have seen at least 5 times and which I can watch again and again:
 |
|
Sons of the Desert USA 1933, directed by William Seiter, with Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy and Charley Chase |
|
Wages of Fear (Le Salaire de la Peur)
France/Italy 1953, directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot, with Yves Montand and Peter van Eyck |
|
Easy Rider USA 1969, directed by and with Dennis Hopper and Peter Fonda |
|
My Name is Nobody (Il Mio Nome è Nessuno)
Germany/Italy/France 1974, directed by Tonino Valerii, with Henry Fonda and Terence Hill |
|
The Life of Brian UK 1979, directed by Terry Jones, with the Monty Python crew |
|
The Blues Brothers USA 1980, directed by John Landis, with John Belushi and Dan Akroyd |
|
The Boat (Das Boot) Germany 1981, directed by Wolfgang Petersen, with Jürgen Prochnow and Herbert Grönemeyer |
|
The Name of the Rose France/Germany/Italy 1986, directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud, with Sean Connery |
|
A Fish Called Wanda UK/USA 1988, directed by Charles Crichton, with Jamie Lee Curtis, John Cleese, Michael Palin and Kevin Kline |
|
Amélie From Montmatre (Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain) France/Germany 2001, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, with Audrey Tautou |
 |
If you understand German, see the topic SEHBEFEHLE for more details. |

Favorite Gadget
My Palm Treo 680 Smartphone PDA. It's also an mp3
player, a digital camera and a web browser and without it I would presumably be a senile nincompoop missing appointments and forgetting phone numbers.
|
| |
Favorite Machine The Saeco
coffee maker in our kitchen with the proud name Royal Exclusive. What would I do without it? Espresso, Cappuccino, regular coffee... at the push of a button. The beans are grinded, the
water is boiled and the coffee comes out - the only thing I have to do is to drink it. In short: the best birthday present I ever gave to my wife Gisela!
|
| |
Favorite Way of Travel I do all
trips within Europe longer than 100 kilometer (about 63 miles) by train. Of course, I own a BahnCard First 50 (bahn.comfort), thus, I only pay half the transportation fee. |
| |
|
My |
Dislikes |
|
My dislike scale spans the wide range from 'learned to live with' up to
'makes me puke'. However, the rank assigned to each topic below varies, therefore, the following sequence is without any priority.
Generalizations who actually is THE German? Did you ever meet him? I didn't. Not even abroad. |
| |
Fanaticism all kinds of it.
Actually, I do not like most of the ideological "...isms". |
| |
Messing with my native language
I really hate the many a anglizisms in the German language. They are totally unnecessary. |
| |
Astrology and Superstition
including all other manifestations of obscure mind dulling. I cannot believe what people are had. |
| |
Gambling ok, ok, I know, of
course you have a tiny little chance, but eventually the only one who always wins is the organizer. |
| |
Parsley which chefs keep
sprinkling over the food. I don't understand why anybody believes that this green stuff makes potatoes more appealing. |
| |
Tenors and Sopranos make me
shiver, and I don't even know why. Must be an early trauma, although in the late 40s there were no more air-raid sirens in Germany. |
| |
Crowds Every number of people
which exceeds the capacity of a medium size cinema makes me nervous. Therefore, all big events (even if they are important) have to take place without me. |

About Age |
You are really old when your wife says: "Let's go upstairs and make love."
and you have to answer: "Sorry, honey, I can't do both."
...luckily, there are no stairs in our apartment. |
|
My favorite cartoon |
|
"OK, Mr. Wise-Guy, if God doesn't exist, who you think changes our water every week?!?"
|
This is my favorite cartoon for more than 30 years, because it not only shows the naive religious attitude of many people but it also
demonstrates that the individual view of the world always depends on the intellectual level and, third, that critics are immediately silenced by apparent irrefutable arguments. |
|
Amazing |
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at the Cmabridge Uinervtisy, it deosn't mttaer in waht oredr the
ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer is at the rghit pclae. The rset can be a toatl mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the hmuan

By the way, according to my research, there is no such study, but amazing, anyway, isn't it? |
|
One of my credos |
[panta rhei] |
Everything is in a constant flux, nothing stands still. [Platon's summary of Heraclitus' teachings]
...I think there is no better and shorter way to describe the principle of evolution. |
